DIBELS® Deep PA & WRD Live Online Workshop

Friday, October 3, 2018
8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Pacific)

This one-day workshop provides training on two of the newest products in the DIBELS Next family: DIBELS DEEP PA & WRD (Phonemic Awareness and Word Reading and Decoding) and DIBELS Next® Survey. The workshop provides an in-depth discussion of the process of conducting diagnostic assessment with DIBELS Deep PA & WRD. Procedures are included for using DIBELS Deep with and without DIBELS Next and DIBELS Survey data. Practice activities and case examples explore the connections between these assessments to provide a complete picture of student skills from benchmark screening to diagnostic testing, to instruction, and ultimately to the evaluation of instruction with progress monitoring.

NOTE: DIBELS Next Mentors attending this workshop will receive the "DIBELS Deep PA & WRD" and "DIBELS Next Survey" endorsements and will be given access to DMG's official materials to train others.

DIBELS Deep Phonemic Awareness and Word Reading and Decoding

DIBELS Deep PA & WRD provides the practical bridge between data and instruction. These brief measures are individually administered, untimed diagnostic assessments of critical reading skills for students in grades K-5, and for older learners with very low skills. The precise information from DIBELS Deep PA & WRD helps educators make informed decisions and answer the following questions to better target instruction for struggling readers:

  • What types of support do students need?
  • How should students be grouped?
  • What specific skills should be the focus of instruction?
  • What instructional strategies should be implemented?

DIBELS Next Survey

Based on DIBELS Next Benchmark Assessment scores, some students may require off-grade-level progress monitoring to most accurately measure growth. Because these students may have below grade-level reading skills, determining the appropriate level for progress monitoring is critical. DIBELS Next Survey is an advanced assessment administered to students who have not reached benchmark goals.

DIBELS Next Survey:

  • Ensures no time is wasted by progress monitoring too high or too low
  • Accurately identifies the level of materials needed for progress monitoring
  • Supports teachers in selecting intervention materials at the right level
